What is a Personal Concierge, and What Does a Concierge Do?

If you’re looking for in-home services for the elderly, you may want to consider a personal concierge service. For seniors who need a little extra support as they grow older, a personal concierge can be an excellent option.

What is a Personal Concierge?

Have you ever stayed in a fine hotel? If you have, then you already understand what a hotel concierge does: they are at your service to perform tasks or services for you when you need them. A personal concierge serves the same function in a home or business environment.

What Does a Personal Concierge Do?

A personal concierge may work with overworked business people or busy families who don’t have time to deal with occupational, organizational, or personal tasks.

At Home Concierge, we serve as personal concierges for elderly clients and their families. We help seniors who wish to age in place to remain independent in their homes for as long as possible.

The services we provide vary from member to member, as not all older adults will have the same support needs. However, all of our services are designed to help you provide the best elder home care available for keeping seniors at home and out of an assisted-living facility or a home for aged.

First Things First

The first thing your concierge will do is spend some time getting to know your loved one. We’ll find out which support services they need and match them with a concierge staff member who is best suited to meet their needs.

Your personal concierge will become your family’s single point of contact. They will coordinate with the staff assigned to your loved one and brief them fully on your senior’s preferences and routines. We recognize that continuity is important, so we work carefully to minimize staff changes. Your senior will see the same familiar face with each visit.

Help with Housework

  • Your senior’s concierge team members can help with cooking, light cleaning, and even yard work. Is your loved one expecting guests soon? They can schedule a deep clean!

Organize Activities and Social Events

  • Our concierge will take time to learn your senior’s interests and to find activities within the community they might enjoy. We also organize regular wine and cheese tasting events where our members can meet each other and plan shared activities.

Organize Transportation

  • Does your loved one need transportation to these social events? We will see that they get there. We can also get them to medical appointments and to run errands in the community.

Provide Companion Support

  • Sometimes all a senior needs is a little companionship. Our staff will spend time with your loved one doing things they enjoy. Whether that be card games or learning something new, staff visits will add a bright spot to your older adult’s day.

June recently told her concierge that she wanted to communicate with her granddaughter more often. Our staff taught her how to use an iPad and the FaceTime app. June now uses FaceTime all the time, and she loves it!

Arrange Medical Appointments

  • Many of our members have regular doctor and lab appointments. Your concierge will be happy to organize transportation to and from these appointments. They can also arrange appointments for acute illnesses or injuries or coordinate with an elder care home health agency.

John had a niggling injury in his leg and back that constantly bothered him. When it got worse, he tried to get an appointment with his primary care provider but was going to have wait a long time to see him.

John called his concierge, and his concierge immediately called around and found him an appointment in a nearby clinic (one which already had access to his medical records) the very same day. The concierge also arranged transportation for John to be able to get to the clinic without stress.

Coordinate Home Maintenance Projects

  • If your loved one has home maintenance chores that they find overwhelming, they need only to ask their concierge. The concierge will take it from there. They will find, recommend, and schedule home improvement contractors and professionals to get the job done.

Ginny had a stain on the dining room ceiling for months that she had not been able to get fixed. We sent a maintenance specialist to take a look at it. He discovered that there was a leak in her roof that was causing water to collect above the ceiling. This job would require serious work.

Ginny’s concierge found highly recommended roofers in her area and suggested three of them. Ginny then chose the one she was most comfortable with to fix the damage.
